Creative ways to host a virtual birthday party

24 April 2020

While there are many ways to entertain yourself during lockdown (binge-watching Disney+, amateur baking, competitive jigsaw-ing to name a few we’ve tried!) we’ve got a hunch that spending your birthday confined to the house was not in the original plan. But let’s get one thing straight…

Social distancing doesn’t have to mean social non-existence.

Your birthday is as important as ever and even though a self-care staycation may not have been entirely what you had in mind this year, that doesn’t mean that you and your friends can’t celebrate in style – and most importantly, safety. So without further ado, we present to you our top tips on how to host your own virtual birthday party!

Firstly, grab your laptop, and open the miracle that is Zoom.

We never thought we would squeal with delight at an e-invite, but there is nothing better than having all your favourite people together in one Zoom room – without even having to change out of your pyjamas – host your own zoom party!

It’s safe to say that at Soap & Glory, we love a quiz. And we love Zoom. Put them together, what do we get? Our idea of heaven, of course. Ever wondered how much your family and friends really know about you? Or if they are as big a Bake Off fan as they claim? Now’s the time to put them to a test by having a go at creating your own quiz! You could try theming it, dressing up, or keeping it strictly casual – whatever you like, you’re the quiz master after all.

Once you’re all quizzed out, why not head over to HouseParty. If you haven’t downloaded it already, then get cracking! It’s a great way to enjoy a video catch up with your friends & family but not only that, it enables you to play games too! Games like ‘Heads Up’, ‘Quick Draw’ and lots of trivia. It’s super fun and is the virtual version of a fun birthday shin-dig.

Next up, we say: let them eat cake!

Eating cake is practically a fundamental human right on your birthday and with all the recipes floating around recently, from the egg-less, to the flour-less, to the bake-less, there is a recipe for everyone (no matter how stocked up your cupboards are). And don’t worry if you can’t get a slice to your pals, we’ve heard it’s just as fun making them watch you eat it!

Check out a few of our favourites below:

For our final tip, we’ll let you into a little secret…

The key word is i n d u l g e n c e.

That’s right. It’s your birthday so once you’re all Zoom’d out, it’s time to run yourself a much-deserved long, hot, bubble bath. Grab your favourite face mask (we recommend our Party Recovery Radiance Boosting sheet mask ofc!), pop open some bubbly, sit back and sooooooak.

Okay so it may not be the birthday you had planned but it’s certainly one you won’t forget! Also, it might just be us, but our inner old lady is secretly overjoyed at the thought of staying in and eating a whole cake to ourselves…
